Finished my new poem about Cancer.....

Cancer by Shelly Atkinson

When her doctor told her a lump had been found,
She was mad that her body had now let her down
She shook, she trembled, couldn’t believe her ears
There was a rush of emotions, and so many tears.

She wanted to shout, and yes, she cried,
And asked herself daily, the big question...WHY?
So she read all she could and asked questions galore ,
Wondering what to do, and not really sure.

The decisions she made, Were they right? Were they wrong?
Could she really go through this, for her child she’d be strong.
The surgery now behind her lying quiet in bed
Viewing her scars, feeling such dread.

Letting her child know that mommy would be right
Even though knowing, she was in for a fight.
Friends gather round her not knowing what to say,
But a hug and a smile, seem to go a long way.

Cancer, they call it...what an ugly word,
As she wipes away tears, vision now blurred.
She’s a survivor, each day she grows strong,
Being alone with her thoughts, just seems so wrong.

Her journal now helps her to sort it all out,
And acts as a reminder whenever in doubt.
Will the cancer come back? Only God knows for sure,
It is hoped that someday there will be a cure!

I finally finished my 4 images. I plan on having them reproduced onto cards. I hope to donate part of the earnings from these cards to our local SPCA.

Back from Cuba

Well....I went to Cuba...had a great time...had a wonderful travel partner....took my artwork...and didn't do a damn thing! Oh well.....my intentions were good. So now I have to hurry up and finish up some new dog/cat cards I am creating....which I hope will help raise some funds for our local SPAC!

I have had a really hard time focusing on my artwork and have to get my head out of my ass and get busy....."maybe I don't want to paint anymore"?????? I enjoy the rewards that come with the art selling and don't want to give that up.....I just don't have the energy it seems.....so this weekend...I MUST get into my studio and clean it up.....which seems to be all the time...finish up my cat/dog card images...then get busy with original paintings for a Lunenburg Gallery.

On a happy note...my being away allowed my husband and dog, izzy, to bond! She now follows him around more and wants to spend time with him. I was really worried about how she would do without me there as she was with me ALL THE TIME!!!

Finished up Commission....getting ready for Cuba

What a busy week.....went to my first dog show ever to see my sisters dog, Sulley...he is still a pup...9 months old....but what a good natured dog. He is an Anatolian Shepherd Dog.
Finished up a commission for the Bridgewater Museum of the old train station. Challenging, as I always get nervous trying to create something for someone else. I prefer just to paint whatever I want.....but it is finished, scanned, and the customer is happy....yah.......I am also getting ready for Cuba...I leave early Friday morning...and haven't even got my suitcase packed. Oh...did I mention...I work up until Thursday at 5pm....still need a pedicure...have to do up the laundry for hubby and son so that things are somewhat caught up.....I can't wait to get to warmer weather....I will be packing my sketch pad and water colors and enjoying painting on the beach. I hope to create a bunch of dog and cat images to use for a card line for raising money for our local SPCA.

Izzy's hair is slowly growin

Izzy went to a new groomers on February 20th....and I was in shock when I picked her up and didn't say anything, which is unusual for me....but I was speechless....he shaved her hair right down to almost nothing......well I am glad to say it will be one month on Friday since she was groomed...and it is finally showing signs of growing.....she still has a long way to go....but she looks a "little better"....I doubt she will need to be groomed until the end of the summer.
