Happy New Year & Mammogram Day

I use to have my 2nd mammogram during the month of December and for the past 2 years have found Christmas stressful. So I asked my surgeon if I could have them in January which would give me something to look forward to for the New Year...hehehehe, yah right!

Well....January 4th was my day at the Dickson Centre in Halifax (Cancer Centre) where I now must go for 5 years to have my mammograms - twice a year. Of course I never sleep well and my stomach is in knots the day before I must go so I am always exhausted. I always make sure about one 1/2 hour before I have the mammogram that I take 2 extra strength tylenol which help with any discomfort. They usually take 3 images of each breast. My sister came with me which was a great help and support! We kept busy looking at magazines while in the waiting room. After the process is all done of course you go back into the waiting room and and wait to get the okay to get dressed. If they call you back in for better shots that is always a little upsetting.

Next trip back will be on the 17th to visit with my surgeon and get the results of these tests. I find this waiting time hard to take. My husband always travels with me for these appointments and is there when we get the results. If all is okay....then I do this all over again in 6 months time until I am clear for 5 years....then I can go back to having them in my town (Truro) again.

Waiting is so hard. Too bad you can't get instant results. I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
